CVE detail
CVE-2024-47076
CUPS is a standards-based, open-source printing system, and `libcupsfilters` contains the code of the filters of the former `cups-filters` package as library functions to be used for the data format conversion tasks needed in Printer Applications. The `cfGetPrinterAttributes5` function in `libcupsfilters` does not sanitize IPP attributes returned from an IPP server. When these IPP attributes are used, for instance, to generate a PPD file, this can lead to attacker controlled data to be provided to the rest of the CUPS system.

- CUPS vulnerabilities could be abused for DDoS attacksHelp Net Security
While the Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS) vulnerabilities recently disclosed by researcher Simone “evilsocket” Margaritelli are not easily exploited for remote command execution on vulnerable systems, they could offer more opportunity to attackers who engage in DDoS attacks, Akamai threat researchers have discovered. Potential for RCE CUPS is an open-source printing system based on the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP). While present on many Linux, BSD and other systems, CUPS is not enabled by default on … More →
newswww.helpnetsecurity.comOct 3, 2024, 1:10 PM A security researcher has developed an exploit that leverages several vulnerabilities in CUPS (common UNIX printing system), the default printing system on most Linux systems. The exploit chain allows attackers to remotely register a rogue printer device on the system and then execute commands as root if the user directs a printing job to it. […]
newswww.csoonline.comSep 27, 2024, 8:44 PMA researcher has disclosed details of an unpatched Linux vulnerability, initially labeled as critical, that allows remote code execution. The popular cybersecurity researcher Simone Margaritelli (@evilsocket) disclosed technical details of an unpatched vulnerability impacting Linux systems. On September 23, Margaritelli announced plans to disclose an unauthenticated remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability affecting all GNU/Linux systems […]

After much hyping and following prematurely leaked information by a third party, security researcher Simone Margaritelli has released details about four zero-day vulnerabilities in the Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS) that can be abused by remote, unauthenticated attackers to achieve code execution on vulnerable Linux and Unix-like sistems. The CUPS vulnerabilities CUPS is an open-source printing system that allows a computer on which is installed to act as a print server. It is developed by … More →
